by Mistress Quickly
“Dee?” Ryo called into the dark apartment. Receiving no answer, he shrugged and dropped his keys onto the countertop, fumbling for the lightswitch.
“Hey, Love,” came the groggy sound of Dee’s voice. “You’re back late.”
Ryo sighed as his lover’s strong arms wrapped around him, pressing Dee’s warm chest against his back. He leaned into the embrace and let his head fall back to rest on Dee’s shoulder. “Sorry. Commissioner Rose needed our reports today, and I had some trouble tracking down some bits of the investigation from the Huygens case.”
“Mmm, don’t tell me you’re late because of Rose,” Dee growled. “Even if it’s true. I might have to go all jealous on you, and I know you hate that.”
“And then I’d have to remind you that our reports take so long because you’re disorganized,” Ryo agreed, “and then we’d fight. So I’ll pass that up. Reports took awhile, which is why I’m late. Better?”
“Better,” Dee agreed, nuzzling Ryo’s neck. “Mmm, you smell nice.”
Ryo laughed. “I probably smell like sweat, Dee. But it’s cute that you’re trying to hit on me.”
“Is it working?” Dee wanted to know.
“Of course,” Ryo whispered, squirming to turn around in Dee’s arms, giving him a soft kiss. Dee grinned.
“Good, ‘cause there’s something I want to show you.” He gave Ryo one last kiss, then grabbed his keys and ushered him out the door. Ryo allowed himself to be guided by the hand wrapped around his wrist, grinning at Dee’s back. It had taken months after Bikky’s departure for LA to convince Dee that they did not, in fact, need to have sex every minute that they weren’t working or sleeping. It pleased Ryo to no end that his return-flirting had been well received without the dark-haired detective feeling the need to pounce him.
He slid into the passenger seat of Dee’s car and shared a quick smile with his lover, who started the engine and pulled out of the parking garage without offering any kind of explanation of where they were going. Ryo didn’t press for one, instead leaning back to idly watch the traffic and buildings out his window, one of his hands sneaking over to rest casually on Dee’s thigh.
“Know what today is?”
Pulled from the mindless lull of the rhythm of the car, Ryo looked at his lover and blinked. “Sorry?”
“I said, do you know what today is?”
Friday, thought Ryo. May 18th. Three days before Bikky’s midterms start. Deadline for the report on the Huygens case. Day before ...
“You’re thinking too hard about it,” Dee said softly, cutting into Ryo’s thoughts. “It’s nothing important, actually. I was going through old cases a couple of days ago and found the report on the Feldman case. We worked it together four years ago today.”
Ryo laughed and covered his eyes with his hand. It had been years since the fiasco with Ryo’s homemade bomb and half-baked rescue plan to save Dee and Bikky from the drug kingpin who’d killed Bikky’s father, but it still embarrassed him to remember his highly unprofessional behavior.
“Shit, that can still make you blush?” Dee chuckled. “That’s cute. Anyway, that was the night of our first kiss. So I thought maybe, since we get tomorrow off, we could make a night of it, tonight, kinda like an anniversary, you know?” It was his turn to blush, uncomfortable as always with being ‘romantic.’ Ryo smiled.
“That’s very sweet of you, Dee,” he said softly.
“Yeah, well, I try. And it’s not just the first kiss thing, or anything. That’s just what made me think of it.” He signaled and pulled into a parking garage, circling until they found an available space. Turning off the engine, he winked at Ryo and slid out, locking the car before leading Ryo by the hand to the elevator. Ryo followed patiently, a small bubble of excitement forming in his belly. Dee, for all his charm and loveable traits, was not known for being romantic in the slightest, and Ryo knew just how hard his lover had to work to pull off something other than a romp between the sheets, phenomenal though he was in bed.
They exited the parking garage and walked, in amiable silence, about two blocks, stopping at the front entrance to a huge hotel. Ryo blushed, recognizing the hotel as the same one he and Commissioner Rose had been entering at the same time Dee and Diana had been leaving while working the Nielsen case. He smiled at the memory of the confusion that had resulted; at his own refusal to admit—to himself or anyone else, until Dee dragged it out of him—that he was jealous. That he wanted to be the one with Dee.
Took me long enough to figure it out, he thought, looking at Dee and raising an eyebrow in silent inquiry. Dee grinned.
“It’s sushi night,” he explained, pointing to a sign, “and I know how much you love sushi.”
Ryo could feel himself blush and grinned like a fool, pleased to discover that he really didn’t care what he looked like. This was special; so special.
“But Dee, you hate sushi,” he said, following his pleased-looking lover through the front doors to the hotel restaurant.
“Yeah, I do, but they’ve got other stuff,” Dee answered with a shrug. “Food here’s actually really good. Diana insisted on getting something when we were following Nielsen around; said she wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity for coffee if Rose was buying, even if he didn’t know he was buying.” He grinned and winked at Ryo, following the waiter to their table. Ryo blushed.
“They’re an odd pair,” he commented, sitting across from Dee and opening the menu the waiter handed him. “Sometimes I think they’re going to kill each other; other times I worry they’ll make a spectacle in the middle of the station ...”
“And sometimes she’s too busy kissing you to let you think straight,” Dee interjected, giving Ryo a dark look over the top of his menu.
“That was years ago, Dee,” Ryo laughed. “And she kissed you too, if you’ll remember. But it’s flattering that it still bothers you.”
Dee grumbled something unintelligible and took a sip of water. Ryo shook his head and tried to decide what kind of sushi to order.
It’s nice that he’s still the Dee I fell in love with, even if he’s getting a romantic streak, he thought happily, stealing a peek from time to time at his handsome pouting lover.
Ryo sipped his cup of coffee, enjoying the bitter flavor that nicely offset the sweetness of the cheesecake he and Dee had shared. Normally a tea-drinker, he had learned from his lover that nothing went with cheesecake quite as well as coffee, and had therefore learned, over the years, to like the flavor of the drink he frequently referred to as Dee’s lifeblood.
“Thanks for dinner, Dee,” he said quietly, watching the other drain his third cup of coffee in one go. “That was really good.”
Dee grinned. “Glad you liked it, Baby. Still don’t see how you can eat raw fish with that wasabi stuff hiding under it, but you know. Whatever floats your boat.”
“It’s an acquired taste. Kind of like coffee, actually,” Ryo mused, sipping his drink.
“Don’t ever compare something gross like raw fish to coffee,” Dee growled, looking completely serious. “That’s sacrilege.”
Ryo laughed. “Sorry, won’t do it again.” He smiled and reached across the table, laying his hand gently on Dee’s. “But seriously, thank you. This was a wonderful surprise.”
“Actually,” Dee said in a low tone, “it’s not over. The surprise, that is. I called ahead and reserved a room. Thought maybe we could spend the night; kind of a mini-vacation. It’s okay if you don’t want to, but ...” He trailed off, watching a slow smile spread across Ryo’s face.
“I love you, Dee,” he said. “And yes, I’d love to.”
Dee’s eyes lit up, giving Ryo the impression he was seeing a reflection of what Dee might have looked like at age 10 on Christmas morning, moments before running around and giving Penguin a migraine.
“Thank heaven for that,” he murmured. “I was worried you’d be too tired, getting in late and all.” He grabbed the bill and stood, giving Ryo’s hand a gentle squeeze before pulling his own away. “Can you go check us in while I pay for dinner?”
Ryo nodded. “Thank you, Dee.”
Dee grinned at him. “Back at you, partner.” And with a wink, he turned and sauntered off to the front of the restaurant. Ryo chuckled and grabbed his coat, then found his way to the front desk.
The room Dee had reserved was small and intimate, a wash of calming cream and tan colors that gave Ryo the surreal feeling of sinking into a bed of toasted marshmallows as he toed off his shoes and sat on the edge of the large bed. He watched Dee hang the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door, his smile reflected in Dee’s eyes as the other shut the door and flipped the lock into place.
“You look good enough to eat, Ryo,” he said, toeing off his own shoes and padding across the carpet to the bed.
“Pity we ate so much then,” Ryo teased, running his hands up and down Dee’s arms and stretching up for a kiss.
“Always room for you, Baby,” Dee breathed. “You’re delicious.”
Ryo sighed happily, allowing Dee’s tongue to slip into his mouth, brushing his own softly. He remembered the first time Dee had ever kissed him; remembered the mixture of arousal and fear, the lingering adrenaline from escaping the explosion, the undeniable pleasure and the embarrassment of having kissed a man, and having kissed him in public. He broke the kiss and scooted back on the bed, pulling Dee down onto him.
Kissing Dee has always been good, he mused, idly undoing the buttons of his lover’s shirt as the other warred with his belt, but it’s so much better now that I’m not afraid to let him do it. Buttons defeated, he broke the kiss and gave Dee a gentle backwards shove, pushing the man back into a seated position and pulling the dress shirt the rest of the way off before tossing it aside and tugging his lover back down for another kiss.
“Fuck, Ryo, you’re so hot,” Dee whispered, moving his kisses from Ryo’s mouth to his neck, still warring with the uncooperative buckle of his belt. “Can’t ... get ... this ... damned ... thing ... undone,” he grunted, grudgingly pulling away from his lover’s neck to look at what he was doing.
Ryo chuckled. “Sorry, Dee. I know you hate this belt; wouldn’t have worn it if I’d known we were going out tonight.” He gently pushed his lover’s hands away and deftly undid the belt himself. Dee snorted.
“Don’t know how you do that so fast, or why you wear that damn thing in the first place. Chastity belt’s what it is.”
“If it’s a chastity belt, we should send it back,” Ryo murmured, sitting up and kissing his lover softly. “I’m not very chaste.”
“Are too,” Dee countered. “Rose and I chased you all over this city, trying to get you into bed.” He grinned. “Get it? Chased? You’re chased all over the ... nevermind.”
Ryo laughed. “I get it, Dee. Very funny.”
“Reader’s Digest at its best,” Dee answered, rolling his eyes. He smiled at the man under him, stroking the back of his hand down Ryo’s smooth cheek. “So are we gonna do this or am I gonna sit here and watch my balls turn blue?”
“That’s crude, Dee,” Ryo laughed, blushing. He leaned up for another kiss, entwining his fingers with those on the hand stroking his face. “Can’t have that happen, though, crude as it may be. Only I feel kind of gross from spending half the day in the records room. Foreplay in the shower sound good to you?”
Dee groaned and claimed Ryo’s mouth for a deep kiss. “Sounds great, Baby,” he whispered, then with a grin, tugged Ryo to his feet and off to the shower.
By the time Ryo managed to disentangle himself from Dee long enough to wash his hair and bathe, his fingers had started to wrinkle and his erection was almost painfully hard. Rinsing, the warm water and Dee’s hands caressing him all over, he smiled, noting Dee’s state to be no better than his own.
Satisfied that he was no longer soapy, he turned and pulled Dee’s body flush with his own, kissing him deeply. Dee moaned and rocked his hips against Ryo’s, rubbing hardness against hardness. Ryo gasped and broke the kiss, smiling at his lover through the steamy air.
“We should get out, or I’m likely to embarrass myself,” he said, blushing.
“Even at that, this is gonna be quick,” Dee agreed, failing to resist the temptation to squeeze his lover’s backside when Ryo turned and bent over to turn off the water. He chuckled at the yelp of surprise it earned him.
Ryo stepped out of the tub and handed Dee a towel, drying himself with quick efficiency that Dee adored. “That’s fine, if it’s quick. We can do it again,” he said, smiling at looking at Dee through his eyelashes. Dee groaned and dropped his towel to the floor, grabbing Ryo’s wrist and dragging him out of the bathroom, both of them only partially dried.
“Sorry Baby, no romance this time. I gotta have you now,” he whispered hoarsely, bending to pull a tube of lubricant free of the pocket of his discarded pants. “That okay with you?”
“Perfect,” Ryo murmured, crouching on the bedspread on all fours and wiggling his ass at his lover.
“Oh, Baby I love you,” Dee groaned, climbing onto the bed and running his hands all over his lover’s ass and thighs. “Roll over, Ryo. I wanna watch you.”
Ryo did as he was asked, smiling at the request. He knew Dee couldn’t get as deep from that position as from the other, and was warmed and aroused by the thought that his lover would be more aroused by being able to see him during sex than by the physical sensation of deeper penetration. He claimed Dee’s mouth in a deep kiss, moaning as his lover quickly prepared him, fingers sliding in and out, gently stretching him, working with barely restrained impatience that spoke volumes about Dee’s concern for Ryo’s pleasure as well as for his own. It was incredibly erotic to Ryo, and within minutes he was squirming under Dee’s knowing hands, moaning into the kiss for more.
“You ready, Ryo?” Dee gasped, twisting three fingers deep in his lover, tantalizingly close to Ryo’s prostate; enough so to make the man’s eyes cross with lust.
He nodded. “Do it, Dee, please.”
Dee grinned and pulled his fingers away, squeezing more lube onto them and slicking his own cock. “Not that I’m not going to pound you into the mattress if you don’t,” he rasped, “but beg me, Baby. Tell me what you want.”
Ryo spread his legs as wide as he could and thrust his pelvis up, enticing his lover. “I want you to push your cock into me as far as it will go, then take me hard until I come, how’s that sound?” he asked, blushing at the sound of a mix of all the bad porno lines he could remember coming out of his mouth. Dee looked at him, stunned, then sighed and shook his head.
“Just when I think you can’t get any hotter, Ryo McLane ...” he whispered, guiding his erection to Ryo’s well-prepared entrance. He pushed carefully, pausing each time he felt Ryo’s body spasm around him, then leaned down and kissed his lover once again as soon as he was fully sheathed, breathing hard and warring with himself to wait, allowing Ryo to adjust.
“Good, Dee,” Ryo breathed. “Go on, move. I’m ready.”
It was all the encouragement Dee needed. Slowly at first, he pulled out and thrust back in, gradually speeding up as he met no resistance and saw no trace of pain on his lover’s flushed, sweaty face. He moaned at the feel of Ryo’s body gripping him, massaging his length in a way that was so familiar, so comforting, that it brought him to orgasm far more quickly than he would have liked. Crying out Ryo’s name, he thrust wildly a few more times, then stilled, pumping his semen into Ryo’s body, head thrown back and eyes wide, unseeing.
When his orgasm began to fade, he kissed Ryo, thrusting his tongue against his lover’s only a few times before sliding down the bed to suck Ryo’s cock into his mouth, throating his lover as deeply as he could, fingers teasing the sensitive flesh of Ryo’s balls, then pushing into him to rub his prostate. It wasn’t more than a minute before Ryo bucked his hips and cried out, coming hard in Dee’s mouth, panting and staring, hypnotized by the image of his lover’s mouth filling with his seed, then his lover’s throat working, swallowing everything Ryo had to offer.
Sated and spent, he flopped back onto the pillow and groped blindly for Dee’s hair, tugging on it to communicate to Dee that he wanted to cuddle, brain too dazzled to put the request into words.
Dee growled at the tug on his hair, giving Ryo’s sides a playful pinch as he crawled up the bed and curled up against Ryo’s warm body. Ryo half-heartedly protested the tickling, sighing with happy pleasure when the torment of Dee’s fingers disappeared, replaced by the warmth of the man’s body pressed against his side.
“Love you, Dee,” he murmured, eyes closed.
“Love you too, Ryo,” Dee answered, smiling.
“Thank you for the anniversary. This was wonderful.”
Dee chuckled. “That’s one of the things I love about you being a man, Baby. All the chics I know would be pissed if someone suggested dinner and amazing sex as a way to commemorate a first kiss.”
“Really? I think it’s kinda nice,” Ryo said around a yawn. “A little extravagant, but it’s nice, like a vacation. After that fiasco in England, I doubt we’ll be getting vacation time together for awhile.”
Dee nodded, nuzzling the damp strands of Ryo’s hair. “It is kinda like a vacation, but without a murder case to deal with.”
“Perfect,” Ryo murmured. He rolled onto his side so that he was facing Dee and smiled. “Did you get cheesecake for dessert on purpose?”
Dee blinked at him. “And the award for random question of the evening goes to: Ryo McLane.”
Ryo laughed. “Well, you know I only drink coffee when I eat cheesecake, and that coffee keeps me up all night. Seems like something you’d plan ahead of time.”
Dee was quiet for a moment, letting Ryo’s words sink in. Finally understanding, his eyes lit up and a feral grin spread across his face. “It wasn’t intentional, but damn if I’m not going to remember that next time we’ve got some free time,” he said, again giving Ryo the impression of a kid at Christmas.
“So, how do you want me this time?” he asked, flirting a little, one of his hands tracing patterns on Dee’s hip. “We can go a little slower; maybe get under the covers?”
Dee growled and pounced, flattening Ryo on the soft comforter. “We’ll save that for next time,” he whispered huskily. “I wanna ride you this time. It’s been ages since I got to be on the bottom.”
“On the bottom on the top, eh?” Ryo teased, grinning. “Sounds wonderful, Lover. Give me fifteen minutes, and I’ll reward you for oh-so-patiently waiting your turn to be on bottom.”
Dee grinned and kissed him. “Happy anniversary, Ryo.”
“Happy anniversary, Dee,” Ryo whispered back, falling into another deep kiss.
Dee was chuckling as he and Ryo rode the elevator down to the main lobby of the hotel to check out, much to Ryo’s annoyance. He’d sincerely hoped Dee wouldn’t notice his embarrassed blush as they left their hotel room and passed the cleaning staff, thinking about the looks that would inevitably be on their faces when they stripped the stained sheets from the bed in the room he and Dee had stayed in.
“They won’t care, Ryo,” Dee said, managing to get his laughter under control, but smiling wickedly all the same. “At least we used the room to its fullest, right?”
Ryo shook his head and blushed. “It was fun,” he admitted. “Just a little embarrassing, is all.”
The elevator chimed and they stepped out, nearly colliding with none other than Commissioner Rose and Diana Spacey. Rose blushed to match his name, but Diana squealed and threw her arms around Ryo, giggling and planting a very lipstick-y kiss on his cheek.
“Deja-vu all over the place, meeting you two here,” she said, finally releasing Ryo and stepping back, winking at Dee, “except last time I was with you, handsome.” Ryo blushed, remembering the way he’d pouted when he and the Commissioner met Dee and Diana coming out of the lobby.
“Well, history has a way of repeating itself you know,” Dee said, grinning at the embarrassed expression on Ryo’s face.
“I think I like this better,” Ryo said softly, smiling as Rose slid his hand against Diana’s, entwining their fingers.
“I agree,” Rose said, smiling back at Ryo. “You two aren’t here on a case, are you? Thought you had today off.”
Ryo blushed, confirming Rose’s assertion that they were, indeed, not there on business. Dee came to his rescue, draping an arm casually over Ryo’s shoulders. “Anniversary, actually. Y’know this place has great sushi, if you don’t mind eating raw fish.”
Rose nodded. “I see. Well, enjoy your day off.”
“Thank you, sir,” Ryo said politely.
Rose laughed. “See you Monday.” And with that, he led Diana away, growling playfully when she blew Ryo a kiss over her shoulder.
“He’s going to propose to her,” Ryo said quietly, walking to the check-out desk with Dee. Dee raised an eyebrow at him.
“How d’you know that?” he asked. “You got psychic powers I don’t know about?”
Ryo shook his head. “No, nothing like that. But I did see a small box on Rose’s desk yesterday before I left and asked him about it. He told me he was going to ask her; didn’t say he was going to do it here.” He handed his credit card to the woman behind the desk, snickering when Dee sputtered a protest. “You paid for dinner, Dee,” he reminded him. “Fair’s fair.”
Growling about unromantic Japanese-American cops, Dee followed Ryo out of the hotel and down the street to the parking garage. A block away, he stopped and tugged on Ryo’s arm.
“You said you asked him about the ring yesterday, right?” he asked, eyes narrowed. “That wasn’t why you were so late, was it?”
Ryo laughed. “No, not at all. We only talked for a few minutes. Really, Dee, it’s your lack of organization skill that made me so late last night.” He smiled and started walking again, seeking out Dee’s hand with his own once the pouting detective caught up to him and entwining their fingers. “He didn’t have any sort of plan, he said. Just wanted to ask her when it felt right,” he said, smiling. “Not a bad guy, Berkley Rose.”
Dee growled something that sounded distinctly like a slur on Rose’s paternity, but his teeth were clenched too tightly for the words to be clear.
“Seriously,” Ryo said, smile spreading wider. “Now that he’s got Diana and I don’t have to be ready to punch him at any given time, I find him quite pleasant to be around.”
Dee glanced at Ryo out the corner of his eye and smiled, then pulled his lover to him and kissed him quickly on the lips. “When you put it that way, I guess you’re right,” he said.
“Aren’t I always?” Ryo asked. Dee punched the button for the parking garage elevator and snorted, opening his mouth to retort just as the doors slid open. Ryo pulled him inside and kissed him, unreserved in the privacy of the elevator. Whatever retort Dee had been working on died a sudden death as he pulled his lover close and kissed him back.
“Happy anniversary, Love,” he murmured, pulling away as the elevator chimed and opened on the floor where they’d parked.
“Happy anniversary, Dee,” Ryo answered, giving Dee’s hand a squeeze as they walked together to the car.
